Trailhead: an android and ios trip planner that builds a day-by-day itinerary from a short description
An Android and iOS trip planner that builds a day-by-day itinerary from a short description, then keeps working offline once you are on the road.
sample entry — replace with real work before launch (this page is set to noindex)
- 2 stores
- one codebase
- 40
- beta testers
- Offline
- full functionality
Key features
- Itinerary generation from a plain-language prompt
- Drag-to-reorder days with automatic travel-time recalculation
- Offline maps, notes and bookings
- Shared trips with live collaborative editing
- Expense tracking with multi-currency support
UI/UX approach
Designed for one thumb in bright sunlight: high contrast, large tap targets, nothing critical behind a gesture. Generated itineraries appear as editable drafts rather than finished plans, so the person stays in charge. Offline state is shown explicitly instead of failing silently.
AI features
- Itinerary generation constrained by real travel times and opening hours
- Photo recognition for landmarks with a short contextual note
- Conversational edits — 'make day three lighter' rewrites just that day
- Multilingual phrase help generated for the destination
How AI changed the build
Generated screen scaffolding from the design system cut UI implementation time sharply, and synthetic trip scenarios exposed edge cases — overnight travel, closed days, timezone shifts — long before beta users met them.

How the project ran.
- Interviewed frequent travellers about where planners break
- Prototyped the generation flow before the rest of the app existed
- Built offline sync early, because retrofitting it is expensive
- Beta-tested with 40 users across two trips
- Staged store rollout with crash monitoring
This follows the six-stage process every project uses.
